Benfield, the world's leading independent reinsurance and risk intermediary, today announced the appointment of William (Bill) Riker to its Board of Directors with effect from 1 September 2008.
William (49) will join the Board as a Non Executive Director. William was most recently President and Chief Underwriting Officer of Renaissance Re.

William previously served at Renaissance Re as President from 1999 to 2007, Senior Vice President from 1995 and as Vice President Underwriting from 1993. William also served as Vice President of Applied Insurance Research, Inc in 1993. Prior to that, he held the position of Senior Vice President and Chief Underwriting Officer at American Royal Reinsurance Company from 1984 to 1992. He was responsible for developing various analytical underwriting tools during his time at American Royal. William holds a B.S.E. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Duke University.
